The majority of apartments we serve in the greater Houston area house low-income families. Because of their economic situation, many families are unable to provide consistent nutritional meals at home. Food is an essential need for all humans and provides children with energy and nutrients that help them function and develop properly. With this in mind, we established the Food Assistance program in our clubhouses to provide Kids Club children with nutritional meals.
We are able to provide this Food Assistance program through our partnership with the Houston Food Bank. Everyday, the Houston Food Bank brings fresh meals, each packed with an entree, snack, and drink, to our apartments. They also donate food for a number of our planned community events.
When the kids come to the clubhouse after school, they are provided with meals. These meals supply them with the fuel and energy they need to learn and grow. For some kids this may be their only meal besides a school lunch.
This successful partnership between Kids Club and the Houston Food Bank provides children with nutrients they otherwise might not receive and positively impacts their health and development.
