Soccer Camp Program
Urban Outreach Inc. hosts one-day soccer camps for elementary and middle school kids in the apartments we serve. Our largest camp is held during summer in the Spring Branch area. We also offer two soccer camps during the fall: one for our Alief residents and another for our South Houston apartment communities.
On the designated Saturday, we provide transport buses from the apartments to the soccer fields. Children spend the first half practicing their soccer skills with drills our volunteers have set up. We have many coaches from small leagues in the area volunteering so the kids receive a bit of club-like training.
During a twenty minute halftime, the players rest while a speaker teaches them one of the character development lessons from the program we use in Kids Clubs. The speaker uses engaging methods such as stories, scripts, and a brief play to teach the trait. This lesson focuses on character traits needed when playing soccer.
When the break is over, the players take the fields for a scrimmage. Putting their skills to practice, they work with their teammates in a fun, friendly game. They build physical and emotional control while enjoying the game.
At the end of camp, every player receives their very own soccer ball to keep so they can enjoy the sport at home. We also provide each child with a sack lunch and goodie bag.
