SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM

Urban Outreach annually sends 200 youth age 8-15 to the beautiful Camp of the Hills on Lake Travis near Marble Falls, Texas, a meaningful week long camping experience for inner-city youth from area apartment projects, churches, and community centers.  The Summer Camp Program provides a message of hope, love, and purpose for young children and teens.  Nearly 4000 campers have attended over the past 20 years.  Fishing, swimming, canoeing, crafts, Bible studies, and camp fires are all part of the experience.  Only a modest deposit is required from families to secure a spot with UOI covering the remaining cost, as well as providing bus transportation to and from the camp.

Scholarships are available for those who cannot afford the fee!
More than 4000 youth have benefited from the summer camping experience in the past 20 years!
The program is coordinated by a full time UOI employee and utilizes volunteer sponsors who assist during the week and chaperons who accompany the campers on the buses to and from the camp.  The camping experience transforms lives, builds new relationships, develops leadership skills and provides a positive viewpoint never imagined, all within a Christian framework.  Counselors spend quiet time with the campers praying and reading the Bible.  They teach them about abstinence, life without drugs, gangs and guns, the need to remain in school in order to improve their life style, and most importantly about our Lord and how He has impacted many lives.

Many campers return for a second and third year and some serve as staff members.  Returning campers have had significant spiritual impact on their church youth groups through their enthusiasm created at camp.
